    Musical celebration to be held for local radio host Kat Simons

    CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A musical celebration will be held at the Westchester Commons Concert Field in honor of local radio host Kat Simons , 8News spoke with the president of the Friends of Kat Simons Foundation and the manager of Westchester Commons to learn more.

    A free musical celebration will be held at the Westchester Commons Concert Field from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, in honor of Kat Simons, a Mix 98.1 Richmond radio host who died in June.

    Debra Willis, president of the Friends of Kat Simons Foundation, said the foundation was created to carry on Simons’ legacy of what she has done for the community for over 25 years, including helping pet shelters, veterans, seniors and mental health.

    “She just touched so many people, so we decided we have got to do something,” Willis said. “The other thing that we knew she loved so much was music.”

    Westchester Commons Manager Mark Bowen said the event will feature live music from Susan Greenbaum Band, 64 Crayons Band, KOS Band and Ryan Colton & Not Just 90’s Unplugged.

    “Kat was also the emcee for Westchester Concert series for years and years, so I know she’d be very proud of this,” Bowen said.

    Bowen said the musical celebration will also spotlight the charities that Simons’ “held near and dear to her heart.”

    The event is free to attend, with donations encouraged on the Friends of Kat Simons Foundation’s website to help the charities Simons’ supported for years.
