    1 dead, 1 injured in Nottoway crash, Virginia State Police investigating

    NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police is investigating a deadly crash that took place on Wednesday in Nottoway County.

    At approximately 9:53 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, state police responded to a single-car crash westbound on Route 460, near Cellar Creek Road in Nottoway.

    According to police, a 2014 Ford F-150 that was driven by 46-year old James Bernard Franklin of Petersburg, was driving west on Route 460 when it ran off the road to the left and hit a tree, spun around and hit another tree.

    Police confirmed Franklin died due to injuries on the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

    Franklin had one passenger in the front seat of the car, 49-year-old Margaret Jones of Nottoway. She was flown by MedFlight to be treated for injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

    This crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
