HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A person at a Hampton gun shop has been taken into custody after a barricade situation that had been ongoing since early Friday morning, police said.

There were no injuries to officers or the suspect, Hampton Police said.

The situation had been going on since about 6:35 a.m. at the Superior Pawn and Gun in the 100 block of West Mercury Boulevard. Officers originally received a call regarding a burglary in the area. They found a person outside the building when they arrived.

The suspect then ran back into the building after seeing the officers, and a perimeter was established. At 2:45 p.m., the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms’ Washington Field Division tweeted that units from its office were assisting in the response.

Four schools were also on a modified lockdown due to the barricade situation. They were Mary Peake Elementary, Patrick Elementary, Barron Elementary and Syms Middle School.

West Mercury Boulevard’s eastbound and westbound lanes were shut down between North Kings Street and LaSalle Avenue.
