CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An oven in a Chesterfield County home was destroyed Thursday night after fire officials say a resident put a loaded gun inside and turned it on, causing the gun to fire off multiple shots.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, firefighters with Chesterfield County Fire & EMS responded to a Chesterfield home for a report of an oven explosion.

When they arrived, firefighters examined the oven and found a handgun inside. A photo from the scene appears to show it partially melted into one of the oven’s racks.

According to fire officials, someone placed the loaded gun in the oven and turned it on. When the gun heated up, it went off, shooting a total of five rounds.

No one was injured during this incident.

“When you place any item in the oven it is easy to forget it is there, which can lead to a fire or something worse when you turn it on,” fire officials said on Facebook . “You should also make sure to properly store your firearms. Keep them somewhere secure, like a gun safe.”

According to the NRA, Republicans and others we don't need RESPONSIBLE GUN LAWS. A law that requires a Safety and Responsibility of gunn ownership might have stopped this from happening. Now that parents are being charged along with their children, they need to know the responsibility of having guns around young children. I truly don't understand how that infringes on anyone's rights.

Who would even think that the oven was a good place to hide a gun. Definitely won't win any Darwin awards.
