HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 43-year-old Richmond man was arrested in connection to a shooting incident at an apartment complex in Hanover County .

At around 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, Hanover deputies responded to the Beaverdam Creek Apartments in the 7200 block of Cold Harbor Road for a report of shots fired in the parking lot.

When deputies arrived on scene, they were informed of a physical altercation between two males outside, which led to a firearm being discharged. According to the Sheriff’s Office, one suspect fled, and the other was still located at the scene.

The individual at the scene was identified as 43-year-old Cornell Sheron Evans, of Richmond. Evans was transported to the hospital with injuries sustained as a result of the physical altercation.

Authorities said it was apparent that no one had been shot, however one round did strike a building, which did not result in any injuries.

A search was conducted for the second suspect with the assistance of Virginia State Police, however he has not been found, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

During the investigation, Evans was identified as the person who discharged the firearm during the altercation, according to officials.

After being released from the hospital, Evans was transported to the Pamunkey Regional Jail where warrants were obtained and served for reckless handling of a firearm, shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Anyone with information about this investigation, including videos or the identity of the second suspect, is asked to contact the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140 .
