RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia’s Grady Brosterhous scored a crucial 1-yard touchdown with 2:07 left, helping Virginia come from behind to beat Wake Forest 31-30 on Saturday night.

Virginia (2-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) was down 30-17 entering the fourth quarter.

The game turned when Malcolm Greene forced a fumble from Taylor Morin, and Antonio Clary recovered it with 1:24 remaining after Wake Forest had moved past midfield.

Virginia held strong as Wake Forest, with no timeouts left, made a desperate final drive that ended with a series of laterals as time ran out.

Anthony Colandrea threw for 357 yards and three touchdowns for Virginia, despite two interceptions. His final touchdown pass was a 24-yarder to Trell Harris, bringing Virginia within six points with 10:37 left. Colandrea then led a 12-play drive with two crucial fourth-down conversions, ending with Brosterhous scoring the go-ahead touchdown.

Malachi Fields had a career-high 11 catches for 148 yards in the game.

Hank Bachmeier passed for 403 yards and a touchdown for Wake Forest (1-1, 0-1), with Donavon Greene catching 11 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. Despite amassing 544 yards, Wake Forest struggled to capitalize on key drives. Greene missed a chance to recover a late fumble, allowing Virginia to hold on for the win.

Virginia will play Maryland at home next Saturday.
