DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Black, a K-9 with the Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office, received new body armor from a Massachusetts-based nonprofit, with the donation funded by a North Carolina couple.

The sheriff’s office announced Black’s new vest on Facebook on Wednesday, Sept. 12, crediting Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. with the donation.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., is a nonprofit organization that, according to its website , has provided thousands of ballistic vests to K-9s throughout the United States. It has been active since 2009.

Black’s new vest is bullet- and stab-protective. According to the sheriff’s office, it is also embroidered with the text, “Honoring those who served and sacrificed.”
