HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Temporary signs have been sent to be installed on Interstate 64 West in Henrico County after a tractor-trailer crashed into a sign earlier in September.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation , temporary signs were created by the State Sign Shop after the raised bed of a tractor-trailer crashed into an overhead sign on I-64 West on Thursday, Sept. 5, requiring the signs and structure to be removed.

At 9:36 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, a tractor-trailer crash was reported to Virginia State Police on I-64 West near the I-295 exit in Henrico County.

“The bed of a tractor-trailer struck an overhead sign right in that area. The bed then separated from the cab of the tractor-trailer and remained upright, up against the sign,” a Virginia State Police spokesperson told 8News.

According to authorities, there was nothing in the bed of the tractor-trailer.

The crash had caused all lanes in the area to be closed for most of the day. The Virginia Department of Transportation reported that the left travel lane was reopened to drivers at around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.

According to Virginia State Police, the driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 62-year-old Richard D. Houston, of the Lorton area of Fairfax County, was charged with reckless driving.
