    49-year-old Petersburg man drowns in Tennessee lake

    WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WRIC) — A 49-year-old Petersburg man drowned in Old Hickory Lake in Tennessee on Thursday, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

    At around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency responded to a drowning at the Spencer Creek area of Old Hickory Lake in Tennessee.

    According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, a preliminary investigation indicated that a 49-year-old man, from Petersburg, Virginia, was on a pontoon boat with family and friends when he jumped into the lake to go for a swim.

    The man was reportedly not wearing a lifejacket and did not resurface. According to officials, passengers aboard the pontoon boat were unable to locate the man.

    Emergency crews from several Tennessee agencies searched the area and were able to locate the body of the missing Petersburg man.

    The incident remains under investigation. According to officials, this incident marks a total of 18 boating deaths on Tennessee waters this year.
