    Richmond claims first win of season with 38-0 win over Charleston Southern

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) –The University of Richmond football team won big against Charleston Southern on Saturday, 38-0, marking their first win of the season.

    Richmond’s defense was excellent, allowing only 39 rushing yards and forcing several turnovers. Jeremiah Grant, a senior, stood out with five tackles and two sacks. Camden Byrd and Carter Glassmyer also made key defensive plays.

    Richmond scored in every quarter. Quarterback Kyle Wickersham ran for a touchdown and later threw a 39-yard touchdown pass. Backup quarterback Ashten Snelsire also did well, adding some extra yards.

    Running back Zach Palmer-Smith led the team with 80 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Trusler had a great game punting, including a 74-yard punt that pinned Charleston Southern deep. Brandon Peskin made all his extra points, and freshman Sean O’Haire kicked a 31-yard field goal.

    Head Coach Russ Huesman was pleased with the team’s performance.

    Next, Richmond will play Delaware State on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 6:00 p.m.
