RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A 19-year-old man who was found guilty of shooting two people outside of George Wythe High School in Richmond’s Southside in 2023 will serve nine years in prison after he was sentenced on Monday.

On Monday, Sept. 16, 19-year-old David Gutierrez of Richmond was sentenced to a total of 23 years with 14 years suspended for the following four charges:

    • Malicious wounding (10 years, nine suspended)
    • Unlawful wounding (five years, three suspended)
    • Possession of a firearm at a school (five years, two suspended)
    • Use of a firearm while committing a felony (three years, none suspended)

Gutierrez was found guilty in February at the end of a four-day trial. He had initially been charged with two counts of use of a firearm while committing a felony, but was only found guilty of one of those two charges.
