DCR to host flood resilience community meeting in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is hosting a public meeting in Richmond for the community to learn more about flood resilience resources.

According to a post , Richmond residents can come out to the Hickory Hill Community Center, Main Room 1 (3000 Belt Blvd.) on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. to discuss flooding challenges and learn about flood resilience resources available to South Richmond as well as surrounding areas.

Coastal regions face increasing threats from flooding as sea levels rise and severe weather intensifies — according to DCR — which requires community collaboration to efficiently address.

The meeting will offer several learning opportunities, including:

• Learning more about the Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan, Phase II and other government efforts to understand the ways that flooding is changing in your community
• Learning about ongoing activities to address flood risks in your community
• Sharing lived experiences with flooding, and hearing about those of your neighbors
• Getting first-hand information about tools and resources to increase your flood resilience
