    Late-night house fire in Hanover displaces resident, injures cat

    HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Hanover County resident is displaced and a cat was hurt after a house fire late Monday night.

    At about 10:10 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, firefighters with the Hanover County Fire-EMS Department were called to the 200 block of Chapman Street for report of a house fire.

    When they arrived, the crews found flames coming from the back of a two-story home.

    According to fire officials, the resident escaped the burning home safely and was uninjured. The first crew that made it to the home rescued a cat from inside. The cat was treated for smoke inhalation.

    The fire was put out in just over 20 minutes, according to fire officials. A total of nine units were involved in the effort.

    The resident was displaced by the fire’s damage. They are being helped by their family.

    The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
