LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — New developments have emerged regarding a wildfire that devastated hundreds of acres in Louisa County back in March. James Grant League has been found guilty in connection to the blaze that caused significant destruction.

In a court ruling on Tuesday, Sept. 24, League was convicted of leaving a fire unattended, a class 3 misdemeanor, and causing careless damage to property by fire, a class 4 misdemeanor.

The incident took place on March 21, when a wildfire swept through the Twin Oaks Conference Site on West Old Mountain Road, destroying a warehouse, woodshop, conference center and four cars. The fire prompted mass evacuations and raised concerns over air quality in the area.

In addition to the wildfire charges, League is facing pending allegations of animal neglect and abuse following a raid on his farm last month .

Authorities seized 45 injured and malnourished animals from the property, raising further concerns about League’s conduct. The animals are now under the care of state veterinarians.
