PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Prince George County firefighters spent hours battling a large, late-night brush fire that burned through many hay bales over the weekend.

Around midnight the weekend of Saturday, Sept. 21, firefighters with Prince George County Fire & EMS were called to a large brush fire.

When crews arrived, they found a large amount of hay bales and brush in flames.

Firefighters spent just over two hours working to put out the fire. According to fire officials, both the size and location of the brush fire made getting water onto the flames difficult.

When firefighters don’t have access to fire hydrants, they must launch something called rural water supply operations — a blanket term for a variety of tactics used to bring water to the scene. In this case, Prince George firefighters called in additional tankers.

No additional information, such as the exact location of the fire or what may have caused it, has been shared by fire officials as of the time of reporting.
