RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Six Virginia State Parks now offer all-terrain wheelchairs in order to give guests with limited mobility more access — including one in the Richmond area.

According to Virginia State Parks, electric all-terrain wheelchairs are available on designated trails by guests with limited mobility at the following state parks:

This project began as a pilot program in Mason Neck with the support of Friends of Mason Neck State Park and Del. Kathy Tran (D-Springfield).

Guests are asked to fill out this form at least 48 hours in advance in order to have access to an all-terrain wheelchair.

The funds to purchase the all-terrain wheelchairs were provided by Virginia State Parks license plate sales. Since they were introduced in 2019, $15 from each plate sale has gone towards projects that make Virginia State Parks more accessible.
