RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The severe weather expected in Virginia due to Hurricane Helene has prompted some Central Virginia school divisions to close or delay their openings on Friday.

The hurricane will make landfall in Florida the evening of Thursday, Sept. 26. While the hurricane itself should not pass through Virginia, the storm system will still bring some severe weather conditions to the Commonwealth — especially heavy rain.

Some school divisions in Central Virginia will be closed on Friday, Sept. 27 due to these conditions. They are listed below:

    • Buckingham County Schools
    • Cumberland County Schools

Other school divisions will be on a 2-hour delay. Those include:

    • Albemarle County Public Schools

This list will be kept up-to-date with any additional schools that issue a Friday closure or delay.
