    Tornado watch issued for southern, central and tidewater areas of Virginia

    DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Multiple localities throughout Virginia’s southern, central and tidewater areas are under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. on Friday due to impacts from Tropical Storm Helene.

    According to the National Weather Service, a tornado watch means that tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. This is different from a warning, which would mean that a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar.

    The following areas are under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27:

    • Appomattox County
    • Brunswick County
    • Buckingham County
    • Emporia
    • Williamsburg
    • Dinwiddie County
    • Greensville County
    • James City County
    • Lunenburg County
    • Mecklenburg County
    • Nottoway County
    • Prince Edward County
    • Sussex County
    • Essex County
    • Northumberland County
    • Richmond County
    • Westmoreland County
