RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Flood warnings have been issued for several Central Virginia counties, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

A flood warning means that flooding is expected in a given area due to excessive rainfall.

The following Central Virginia areas are under a flood warning until around 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28:

    • Albemarle County
    • Greene County

Additionally, these coastal areas are under a separate coastal flood warning until 4 a.m. Saturday:

    • Essex County
    • Northumberland County
    • Richmond County

The NWS advises those in the areas listed above to take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.

If travel is required, drivers are advised not to navigate around barricades or through water of unknown depth — “Turn around, don’t drown.”
