FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Fluvanna County residents experienced issues calling 911 due to a service outage affecting Brightspeed and Verizon early Saturday morning, according to the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, the Fluvanna County Emergency Communications Center was notified that a service outage was being experienced by Brightspeed, formerly CenturyLink, and Verizon that was affecting 911 and non-emergency phone lines coming into the center.

At around 6 a.m., the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office reported that residents were unable or had limited ability to make outgoing calls using traditional landline phones.

The Communications Center was alerted that 911 calls made by residents using Verizon Wireless were being routed to other 911 centers and arrangements were made for the transfer and response to those emergencies, according to authorities.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 911 calls made by other wireless providers appeared to be functioning regularly.

At around 11:40 a.m., officials said the 911 and normal non-emergency phone service appeared to have been restored to the Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Communications Center.

However, the Sheriff’s Office said any person who may still have issues connecting to 911 or the non-emergency number should call 434-962-1761 or 434-962-2894 , which are two phone lines activated by the Communications Center for Fluvanna residents to use.

The two numbers will be available and monitored until 7 p.m. Saturday in case further outages occur, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
