RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The City of Richmond’s Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced that there will be new traffic signal upgrades approaching the intersection of Chamberlayne Avenue and School Street.

According to DPW, the construction will start in October — providing safety improvements and additional upgrades to the traffic signal that already exists at the intersection.

The improvements coming to the intersection of Chamberlayne Avenue and School Street will include:

    • Pedestrian countdown and push buttons
    • Car detector sensors
    • High-visibility retroreflective backplates
    • High visibility crosswalks
    • New accessibility curb ramps

DPW said during the construction, there will be intermittent and sidewalk closures. The contractors will be using cones, barrels, arrow boards and temporary traffic signs to help guide drivers and pedestrians through the work zone.

If weather permits, the project is expected to be completed by Spring 2025. The estimated cost of this project is $400,000.
