ESSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Route 360 over Downing Bridge between Essex and Richmond counties will be reduced to one lane starting Sunday as repair work is performed.

From 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. starting Oct. 6 and ending Oct. 10, drivers on Route 360 between Richmond County and the Essex County town of Tappahannock will experience delays as they cross Downing Bridge, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

As the roadway will be reduced to one lane, automated flagging devices may be used to direct alternating one-way traffic across the bridge.

According to VDOT, crews will repair the aluminum railing of the bridge, as well as make concrete repairs to the bridge deck.

There will be message boards on both sides of the Downing Bridge to inform drivers of this work.

“Weather permitting, work on the Downing Bridge is anticipated to be complete by the end of next week,” the department said.
