RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Water levels at the James River have reached above the flood stage, prompting officials to urge extra caution.

The Stormtracker 8 Meteorologist team has been tracking levels continuously and predict an ongoing rise from the 14-foot level it has reached Wednesday.

8News reached out to Friends of the James River executive director, Josh Stutz, who has provided tips for people to follow as levels continue to increase.

“Take extra caution around the river as the river can be dangerous for even expert boaters at these levels,” said Stutz. “Most people are going to be able to tell it’s too high for them to be out there.”
