65-year-old pedestrian identified in deadly crash on Route 1 in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Chesterfield County Police Department has identified the pedestrian who died after they were hit by a car on Route 1 on Tuesday.

Chesterfield Police identified the pedestrian involved in the deadly crash on Route 1 as 65-year-old Joseph A. Day.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1, at around 7:11 p.m., police responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at the 7800 block of Route 1 in Chesterfield.

According to police, when officers arrived on scene, they located an injured pedestrian, now identified as Day, on the northbound side of the road. Police said Day was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died due to his injuries.

The driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the police, according to officials.
