CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A crash took down a power pole on Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield County on Friday, with power lines dropping into the road and onto cars.

The crash took place just before 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Pocono Drive.

According to the Chesterfield Police Department, two vehicles were involved in the crash and one of those vehicles hit a power pole.

Photos taken by 8News at the scene appear to show that the pole nearly snapped entirely from the impact.

Power lines both surrounded and fell on vehicles as a result. Dominion Energy cut power to allow crews to remove the fallen power lines.

According to police, one person was treated for minor injuries at the scene. No one else was hurt.

All lanes of Midlothian Turnpike in both directions were shut down immediately after the crash. As of the time of reporting, only one lane — a westbound lane — has been reopened. Police told 8News that it could be a while before authorities reopen the road entirely.

As of about 10 p.m., 8News passed by the scene and saw at least two lanes remained closed. The nearby BP gas station also appeared to have no power.
