COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — A man has been sentenced to six years in prison for drug and firearm charges after a foot chase with Virginia State Police (VSP) troopers in Colonial Heights in May.

According to the Office of the City of Colonial Heights Commonwealth’s Attorney, VSP troopers pulled the man over on May 29 after they saw him “committing both traffic and criminal violations” while driving in the city.

After pulling over, the man got out of the vehicle and began running from the troopers, who caught him after a brief chase.

A firearm and suspected illegal drugs — which were later tested and determined to be fentanyl, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine — were in plain view inside of his vehicle, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

On Sept. 3, the man pleaded no contest to two counts of possession of Schedule II or II substances with intent to distribute and one count of possession of a firearm while in possession of Schedule I or II substances and was sentenced to a total of six years in state prison.
