Virginia falls to 4-2 following 24-20 loss to Louisville

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Cavaliers scored 13 points in the second half on Saturday, but Louisville answered with the game-winning touchdown with 1:55 left, winning 24-20 at Scott Stadium.

After Louisville’s touchdown, Virginia (4-2, 2-1 ACC) moved to the 39-yard line but couldn’t complete four passes, and the Cardinals (4-2, 2-1 ACC) ran out the clock.

Head coach Tony Elliott praised the team for their effort and progress despite the loss.

Virginia started strong, driving 75 yards for a touchdown on their first drive, with backup quarterback Grady Brosterhous sneaking in for a score. The game was tied 7-7 after Louisville scored early in the second quarter.

In the second half, Louisville scored 10 points before Virginia kicked two field goals to make it 17-13. They then took the lead when quarterback Anthony Colandrea threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to tailback Xavier Brown.

Colandrea led Virginia in rushing with 84 yards and completed 26 of 45 passes for 279 yards and one touchdown. His top receivers were Malachi Fields, who had nine catches for 129 yards, and Tyler Neville, who caught seven passes for 64 yards.

On defense, senior Jonas Sanker had 11 tackles, and freshman Ethan Minter made an interception.

Next, Virginia will play Clemson (5-1, 4-0) on Saturday at noon, broadcast on ACC Network. Clemson leads the series against UVA 40-8-1.
