Injured man rescued after falling from dam on Appomattox River in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A man was rescued by a helicopter after he had fallen from a dam along the Appomattox River in Chesterfield County and became injured Monday evening.

At 4:40 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS crews responded to the 21400 block of Penmar Drive to help a man who had fallen off a dam along the river near the John J. Radcliffe Recreation area.

Officials said the man had non-life-threatening injuries, but because the area was difficult to access, MedFlight was called in to lift the man and take him to a local hospital.

MedFlight is a partnership between Chesterfield County Fire and EMS and Virginia State Police.

An “above water rescue” of three people was carried out by Chesterfield County Fire and EMS in the same area of the river in June of 2021.
