HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An outage in the western portion of Hanover County could prevent some residents from making 911 calls.

The evening of Wednesday, Oct. 16, a “widespread” Brightspeed outage in western Hanover is affecting “phone services that use Internet”, according to a spokesperson for the Hanover Public Safety Emergency Communications Department. Brightspeed is an Internet service provider.

Until the outage is resolved, residents using affected phone services may have issues reaching 911.

“At this time, we have no reason to believe cell service is impacted,” the spokesperson said.

This outage should be resolved by 11 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, according to the spokesperson.
