MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. — A Carthage woman is charged with helping her son cover-up and evade authorities in her daughter-in-law’s murder. Kansas prosecutors charged Heather McJunkins, 46, with one count of obstructing apprehension or prosecution, and one count of interference with a law enforcement officer by concealing or destroying evidence of a felony.

Tensions erupt at a Jefferson City Council meeting as one councilman raises concern about an ongoing staffing study. The Matrix Consulting Group was hired in June of 2023 to perform a staffing organization study for $145,000. Councilman Andrew Mealy originally said that price tag was too high and again raised his concerns as the city council took up new business at its Monday night meeting.
