EAGLE GROVE, Iowa — People in Wright County celebrated the first day of the county fair Tuesday afternoondespite water still covering portions of the fairgrounds. A parade kicked off the annual fair. People lined the streets in Eagle Grove to watch the festivities. They then poured into the fairgrounds to enjoy food, music and community.
Wright County Fair will begin Tuesday despite flooded fairgrounds
EAGLE GROVE, Iowa — The Wright County Fairgrounds is covered with water after excessive rain caused flash flooding in Eagle Grove over the weekend. The beef barn, grandstand, parking lot and horse arena have been impacted the most. The rest of the grounds are pretty saturated, too. Fair manager Tricia Rosendahl said the board met Monday morning to discuss contingency plans.
The rain keeps falling
Heavy rains that flooded part of the Wright County Courthouse required the supervisors to move their July 8 meeting to the magistrate’s courtroom on the third floor. The board approved a local disaster declaration that will be submitted to the state. Jarika Beecher, the county’s emergency management coordinator, said the Red Cross will be giving sanitary buckets to people in Eagle Grove and Clarion to help clean up sewer problems caused by flooding.
Exceptionally heavy rainfall brings flash flooding in Franklin, Wright counties
(Radio Iowa) – Forecasters say parts of Wright and Franklin counties got up to a half-foot of rain overnight, bringing flash flooding to communities including Alexander, Clarion and Eagle Grove. Wright County Emergency Management Coordinator Jarika Beecher says many basements were flooded and many roads were impassible as municipal crews tried to keep up with the torrents.
