The window for filing for elected offices in Wright County’s 2024 elections officially closed earlier this month, at 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 4.

In each of the five Wright County election races, four ended with only one candidate filing — the only names that will appear on the November general election ballots.

District 2 Commissioner Darek Vetsch, who was seeking a third term as county commissioner, was the only candidate to file.

The same was true with all three seats on the Wright Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors — with only one candidate in District 2 (Kris Olson), District 4 (Chris Uecker) and District 5 (Duane Dahlman).

The only contested race is for District 5 commissioner. Two candidates filed: Kirby Moynagh of Montrose and Bill Nibbe of Howard Lake.

Because there were only two candidates that filed, there will be no primary election Aug. 13 for any of the Wright County elected offices. Both Moynagh and Nibbe will move forward to the Nov. 5 general election.

The District 5 commissioner seat is currently held by Mike Kaczmarek, who announced last month that he would not seek re-election.

Those interested in who filed for city, county, state and federal races from Minnesota, can find that information on the Secretary of State’s website at https://candidates.sos.mn.gov.
