Eastern Iowa, Western Illinois Brace for Storms: Hail, Damaging Winds Expected Through 8 PM
Davenport, IA – Residents of Iowa and Illinois are advised to prepare for severe weather today, with storms expected to bring hail and winds exceeding 60 mph through 8 PM. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Marginal Risk warning, indicating occasional rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
Alton woman injured in Friday crash
A wreck that closed a portion of Fosterburg Road Friday morning sent one woman to the hospital with undisclosed injuries and resulted in a number of tickets. The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department says 49-year-old Robin Whitford of Alton was driving a 1998 Mitsubishi when she left the road at around 7:20am, driving through a ditch and crashing into a tree.
There are new temporary islands and sandbars in the Mississippi River near Grafton
Boaters and Mississippi River observers may notice a handful of new temporary islands and sandbars in the river near Grafton. The Army Corps of Engineers recently completed regular dredging of the river. Instead of dumping sediment near the banks of the river as usual, the corps opted to create ephemeral land near where the Mississippi and Illinois rivers converge.
Club moves Golf Classic to Rolling Hills
The Alton Boys and Girls Club has moved its annual Great Futures Golf Classic to Rolling Hills Golf Course in Godfrey. Since there’s no word on when Gordon Moore Park will reopen, the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course also remains closed. The Boys and Girls Club tournament is coming up on Friday August 9, with sponsors and players still being accepted.

In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
