Suspect arrested in Jasper County murder case

RIDGELAND, S.C. (WSAV) – After almost seven months of investigating, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says it finally has the person responsible for a brutal murder in Ridgeland.

On Friday, Sheriff Donald Hipp announced the arrest of 28-year-old Dylan Seagraves, who is accused of shooting and killing 24-year-old Ryan Johnson back in January.

It was Jan. 13 when investigators say Johnson was shot multiple times while in his yard on Preschool Road. The suspect then allegedly drove off on an ATV.

The community had been asking for help finding Johnson’s killer since then.

Sheriff Hipp said it was the victim’s family and residents who helped point the finger at Seagraves and bring him to justice.

The sheriff said there was another person who may have been involved in the shooting.

He added that this was an altercation between the two men and there was no threat to the public.
