BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV)—You may be seeing more mosquitoes in the Lowcountry after the excess of water left behind by Tropical Storm Debby, and one county is taking matters into their own hands.

Beaufort County will be using a helicopter to work on “Mosquito Control” all around the county.

If you’re concerned about the number of mosquitoes can put in a service request, use Beaufort Connect or leave a voicemail at our office with your information.

The service request website does state that, “Please note that all areas require a mosquito threshold to be met before spray. Dozens of traps are set throughout the county to monitor this. If your home is not near one of our current traps, we may need to place a trap at your home to determine if the threshold has been met before a spraying can be done.”

Mosquito Joe owner Gregory Brian Polster told News 3 that mosquitoes start their life cycle in standing water, and it typically takes five to seven days for a mosquito to become a fully grown, biting adult.

“We all of a sudden got a bunch of rain in areas that didn’t have a lot of standing water before, so it caused an explosion of mosquitoes in our area,” Polster explained to WSAV’s Kaley Fedko in late July.
