SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV)—Love’s Seafood Restaurant, located on the bank of the Ogeechee River, closed last week due to severe flooding after Tropical Storm Debby.

The Ogeechee River was predicted to reach about 19.3 feet but peaked just under 18 feet, at 17.97 reported by WSAV’s Scott Roberts, prior to the water levels lowering again.

“We are praying that would maybe just take a month,” Love’s told WSAV. “Everything is still in planning cleaning, sanitizing and replacing stages.”

Love’s said that they are trying to get part of the restaurant, the kitchen, the coolers, their freezers and their AC cleaned, sanitized or replaced so that they could possibly open the banquet room area within the next coming weeks.

Love’s has served patrons for over 70 years and was famously featured in “Forrest Gump.”

“We would like to thank our community for their heartfelt thoughts and prayers,” Love’s told WSAV.
