HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV)—Two men were found dead at the beach in Hilton Head Island on Friday.

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) told WSAV that they found 65-year-old Ralph Jamieson at 10:28 a.m. at 21 Dune Ln.

BCSO said that they are not sure if the death was caused by a medical emergency or drowning, but an investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy has been scheduled.

Also, on Friday afternoon around 3:22 p.m. deputies say they responded to the beach near Ketch in reference to a possible drowning call for service.

Authorities say 73-year-old, Leonard Schenz was seen in the water and then it appeared he went under. Upon deputies’ arrival the Hilton Head Fire Department was already attempting life saving measures, but Schenz died.

BCSO said, “We are not saying this has anything to do with Ernesto, that can’t be confirmed. We do have rip currents at different times throughout the year.”

This is an ongoing investigation and WSAV will update when more information is available.
