HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (WSAV)—Workforce Housing is possibly the biggest issue facing the Lowcountry, now the city of Hardeeville is getting a boost thanks to a promise, and a big donation.

“The city is really taking an active role in trying to create partnerships to build attainable housing,” says Hardeeville City Manager Michael J. Czymbor.

Activity is, indeed, about to ramp up thanks to ROI Real Estate, which has donated a three-acre plot of land specifically for workforce housing.

“This dates back to a commitment we made to the late Councilman David Spisso back in 2021,” said Bryan McClure of ROI. “He asked us if we would voluntarily commit to trying to find affordable opportunities for some of our developments.”

While the donated property, worth more than $600,000, will cover 20-22 housing units, it also allows access to a city-owned plot of land that will expand that to 50-55 affordable units in all.

Kevin Farruggio says the city plans to combine the two properties to maximize its potential.

The developer says it’s the right thing to do for the city and community as a whole, and they are not done making a difference. They hope this will be a call to action for others in the area to step up.
