SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Windsor Forest High School (WFHS) was placed on lockdown after individuals came on campus on Monday.

WSAV was told that the Savannah-Chatham Board of Education Police Department responded to armed individuals who came to Windsor’s campus. The school was placed on a hard lockdown as a precaution and it was lifted later.

Two people have been detained for questioning by police. They are looking for a third person who could be involved.

Around 2:30 p.m., at dismissal, a parent coming to pick up their child saw another car with an individual who had a weapon. The parent called the police.

Parents were alerted by the school and their children. Danielle Banister, a parent of a WFHS student, was texted by her child and decided to call WSAV to find more information.

“It’s a scary feeling,” Banister said. “People who have been through that, I can’t, more power to them. Because just hearing her say that there is a gunman around the school, and you don’t know if your child is OK or safe. It was scary.”

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) said in a statement to WSAV that the safety of students and staff is the district’s number one priority.

“It is the responsibility of everyone to keep our schools safe,” said SCCPSS. “Today was a great example of that. We encourage everyone who sees something unusual, to say something. That is what happened today and the system worked exactly as it should.”

They also said there will be additional security at WFHS for the rest of this week which is standard protocol after a threat incident.
