SOPERTON, Ga. (WSAV) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested and charged former Soperton Police Department (SPD) Officer Kenneth Bishop, of Swainsboro with three counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Terroristic Threats and Acts.

On July 31 the SPD asked the GBI to investigate an incident that occurred on July 26, while Bishop was employed as a Soperton Police Officer.

The GBI investigation indicates Bishop was dispatched and responded to a call about an assault.

During the initial investigation, GBI says Bishop stopped a car occupied by three people who were relatives and friends of the assault victim.

According to the GBI, Bishop and the people in the car got in an argument. The incident escalated and Bishop pulled out his gun from his holster, pointed it at the people in the car while beating on the windows, and threatened to shoot the car.

Bishop was booked into the Treutlen County Jail on August 19.

GBI says this investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 478-374-6988.
