SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Vice President Kamala Harris will be heading to the Hostess City after all, Mayor Van Johnson tells WSAV.

Harris’ planned visit last week was delayed as Tropical Storm Debby made its way through the area.

“They promised to come back and we’re just working to nail down a date in the midst of a busy campaign schedule,” Johnson said in an interview with News 3 at the Democratic National Convention.

This will be Harris’ second visit to Savannah this year. She brought her Fight for Reproductive Freedom tour to the city back in February.

“I don’t think ever in our history have we had a president or vice president in Savannah within the same six months,” Johnson said. “And we’re getting ready to have that twice.”

Air Force 2, used by the vice president, touched down twice on Monday at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, though it’s unclear if she was on board.

Harris is expected in Chicago Thursday for the Democratic National Convention where she will accept the party’s nomination for president.
