SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – We asked and you answered.

Last week, our Facebook and X followers weighed in on their favorite movies filmed in Savannah (besides Forrest Gump ).

Sixty-eight respondents offered a wide variety of titles that reinstated the city’s ever-growing film presence.

    What did the people choose?

The film with the most votes was Something to Talk About , the 1995 comedy-drama starring Julia Roberts as a woman dealing with her husband’s (Dennis Quaid) infidelity, with five.

Now and Then , The Peanut Butter Falcon , The Gift , and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and Glory all received three votes.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water , The Longest Yard , The Do-Over and Devotion each scored two.

We both compiled our list of the top five movies shot in Savannah. They went a little like this…

    Dylan

    1. May December
    1. The Great Santini
    1. Longest Yard
    1. Devotion
    1. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

For Dylan, May December , the 2023 drama about an actress studying the controversial real-life subject she intends to play in an upcoming movie, is the quintessential Savannah film. Not only does it take place in the city, but several iconic spots can be seen throughout the film.

    Eric

    1. Ford v Ferrari
    1. Legend of Bagger Vance
    1. Cape Fear
    1. Glory
    1. Something To Talk About

For Eric, Ford v Ferrari topped the list. The 2019 drama follows auto designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and British driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) as they attempt to construct a race car for Ford that will defeat Ferrari in the 1966 Le Mans. The pivotal racing scenes were all meticulously shot in the Hostess City.

Five of our ten received multiple votes, with three of Dylan’s picks making the rounds and two from Eric.

Savannah has been a hotspot in Georgia filmmaking for decades, and the list of movies to which the city contributed grows by the year. The next time you go to see a flick (big or small), you never know, it may have been filmed right in your backyard.
