BRUNSWICK, Ga. (WSAV) – The Kids Nest Learning Center in Brunswick is permanently closed.

This comes after the death of 1-year-old Jamal Bryant Jr. in May, who had choked on some watermelon.

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), which licenses child care centers in the state, later ordered an emergency closure of The Kids Nest and revoked its license.

In a statement on Friday, DECAL said The Kids Nest withdrew its appeal to the revocation. As such, the center has officially been closed in DECAL’s system.

Notice has been sent to the Office of State Administrative Hearings so the case can be dismissed and court canceled, according to DECAL.

Though the day care is shut down, the owner can reapply for a license in one year.

The results of this current case would be taken into consideration for granting any license, a DECAL spokesperson said.
