SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV)—Georgia Southern University (GSU) was featured on the Forbes list of America’s Best Employers By State 2024.

GSU was ranked 77 in the state of Georgia, and 463 in the United States overall.

“It is an honor to be recognized as one of the state’s best employers,” said Georgia Southern President Kyle Marrero said in the press release. “Our goal is to foster an environment where our staff and faculty are engaged and know their intrinsic value and relevance to the success of the University and ultimately, our students.”

America’s Best Employers by State 2024 were identified in an independent survey from a vast sample of more than 160,000 employees working for companies employing at least 500 people within the U.S., GSU said. The ranking was open to companies from all industry sectors and around 4.4 million employer evaluations were considered.

GSU said that the final score is determined by a state-by-state basis and is built upon two types of employee evaluations including personal evaluations which is employees’ willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family, and public evaluations which are recommendations from friends and family members of employees, or members of the public who work in the same industry. Public exaltations are also known as indirect evaluations.

Georgia Southern University, a public Carnegie Doctoral/R2 institution founded in 1906, offers approximately 155 different degree programs serving more than 26,100 students through 10 colleges on three campuses in Statesboro, Savannah, Hinesville and online instruction, GSU said.
