Hilton Head Shore Beach Service clears water due to sharks

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) – Shore Beach Service on Hilton Head Island is prepared for visitors this Labor Day weekend.

That includes sharks.

Beach patrol cleared the water Friday morning in Palmetto Dunes after spotting sharks swimming close to the shore.

Lifeguards are trained to clear the water for 30 minutes from the last sighting of a shark.

“This one was obvious, but we also look for other signs like bait fish jumping or a thrashing motion in the water,” Shore Beach Service stated. “Let us know if you see any of these signs so we can alert others.”
