Candler County schools end soft lockdown after mistaken shooter report

METTER, Ga. (WSAV) – Candler County schools are safe and secure following a soft lockdown for a “potential active shooter situation” amid the Apalachee High School shooting on Wednesday.

According to a Facebook post from the Candler County School System, the lockdown was triggered after a student mistook the Barrow County Tiger mascot for the Metter High School Tiger and contacted the school administrators.

The Candler County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded to the school property and verified that the situation was not in Candler County.
