TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – A Toombs County student has been arrested, accused of posting a social media threat to his high school.

According to the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), early Friday morning, 17-year-old Ezequiel Medina posted on Instagram about “shooting up” Toombs County High School.

The post was removed by Instagram and Medina’s account was locked, TCSO said.

The teen allegedly created a new Instagram account and made a post stating, “You Toombs County people are getting shot up tomorrow. Can’t wait.”

TCSO said Medina then took that post and shared it on Facebook, which a school district staff member later saw.

Medina and another student considered a person of interest were quickly taken in for questioning.

TCSO said Medina admitted to the posts and provided them with screenshots.

The other student was not charged.

While on scene at Medina’s residence, the TCSO said law enforcement conducted a thorough search of his residence and no firearms, nor any other supporting evidence were discovered.

The sheriff’s office said they had no reason to believe the students and staff at Toombs County High School were in danger. However, as an added layer of security, additional law enforcement officers were placed at each school in the district.

Meanwhile, another local school district, the Liberty County School System, also investigated threats of a shooting.

This comes on the heels of the deadly school shooting in Apalachee High School outside of Atlanta and an increase in threats across the state.

Medina faces two felony counts of terroristic threats and one misdemeanor of criminal attempt to disrupt the operation of a public school.

His bond was set to $12,000. At this time, he remains in jail.
