BAXLEY, Ga. (WSAV) – Like many school districts around Georgia, the Appling County School System has called for an additional law enforcement presence at their schools on Friday.

“While there have been no incidents at our schools, we are taking this proactive step to ensure the safety and security of all students,” the district stated.

Officials reiterated that the beefed-up security is purely a precautionary measure and that there is no reason to be alarmed if additional patrol cars are seen.

The measures are being taken in response to the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School.

Locally, there have been shooting threats in at least two school districts.

Thursday, the Liberty County School System received threats made online to “shoot up” local schools.

In Toombs County on Friday, two students were taken into custody after a “disturbing” post on social media about a shooting.

Meanwhile, the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System elevated security due to concerns from parents and students, though there were no threats to any of their schools.
