SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Your daily commute on President Street might see fewer interruptions.

Chatham County, along with the city of Savannah and the Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (CORE MPO), is conducting a study to identify options for eliminating the railroad crossing on President Street at the intersection of the Truman Parkway.

You have a chance to hear more about the study and provide feedback at one of the following open houses:

    Tuesday, Sept. 17

    Frank Murray Community Center

    125 Wilmington Island Road

    4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

    Wednesday, Sept. 18

    Mendonsa Hearing Room (MPC/CORE MPO)

    112 East State Street

    4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Residents can also sign up for email alerts about the study here.

According to the study, removing the rail crossing could eliminate delays and improve safety for the average of 40,000 vehicles per day that use this area to get to and from downtown Savannah.

"eliminate" is impossible since those trains are necessary for the waterfront industries. Best alternative is a traffic overpass.
