JEFF DAVIS COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – On Sunday, the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office (JDCSO) said they, along with the Hazlehurst Police Department and Jeff Davis County School Board, are working together to address the recent Snapchat posts regarding the threat of a possible school shooting.

According to JDCSO, the individual responsible for making the post has been identified by investigators and is a student within the Jeff Davis County School system.

An investigator made contact with the student and the student’s guardian, and during the interview, the student admitted responsibility for the current Snapchat post, authorities say.

Investigators are currently working to identify if any other individuals are affiliated with this threat.

The JDCSO said investigators met with school board officials on Sunday and discussed the status of the investigation and the decision was made by school officials to remove the student from the school system and banish the student from school property and functions until further notice.

Once the investigation is completed, charges will be filed with the appropriate court, according to the JDCSO.

Investigators have been actively reviewing other recent posts being shared to Facebook and Snapchat regarding possible threats to the Jeff Davis School System.

The JDCSO said they want to assure students and parents that any and all threats of violence directed to the Jeff Davis County School System are being thoroughly investigated and responsible parties will be prosecuted.

Those with any information regarding similar posts or threats of any kind are asked to contact the Jeff Davis County E911, JDCSO at 912-375-6600 or the Hazlehurst Police Department at 912-375-6688.
